Bleda S. Düring (Leiden University): The 2nd Neolithic Revolution in Asia Minor: Evaluating Possible
Causes 
Abstract:
Around
6500 cal BC a decisive development took place in Anatolia that was to
have lasting repercussions far beyond peninsula: it consists of the
expansion of the Neolithic way of life beyond the steppe environments
of southern Central Anatolia and the Fertile Crescent, and a spread
towards western Asia Minor and the Balkans. Despite the enormous
importance of this event there has been little debate about what
caused it. In this paper I will consider various elements that might
have played a role, such as climate change, demography, and
agricultural and social changes in a contribution towards the better
understanding of this 2nd Neolithic Revolution.
Bleda Düring
is post-doctoral researcher at Leiden Universitys Faculty of
Archaeology, specializing in the prehistoric archaeology of Anatolia.
He directs the Cide Archaeological Project, which will begin regional
surveys in de Cide district of Kastamonu in the summer of 2009. He has
worked previously at Çatal Höyük, Menteşe and Barcın Höyük.
Düring
has published extensively on settlement and household archaeology, in
international journals such as Anatolian Studies and Archaeological
Dialogues. His dissertation Constructing Communities. Clustered
Neighbourhood Settlements of the Central Anatolian Neolithic ca.
8500-5500 Cal. BC was published in 2006 by the Netherlands Institute
for the Near East.

Yaklaşık
MÖ cal 6500lerde Anadoluda kalıcı etkiler bırakacak belirleyici bir
gelişme gerçekleşmiştir. Bu gelişme, Neolitik yaşam biçiminin Orta
Anadolunun güneyi ve Verimli Hilalin bozkırlarının ötesine
genişlemesi ve Küçük Asyanın batısı ve Balkanlara doğru yayılmasını
beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu olgunun büyük önemine rağmen nedenleri
üzerine yapılan tartışmalar oldukça sınırlıdır. Bu sunumda, iklim
değişikliği, demografi ve tarımsal ve sosyal değişiklikler gibi, ortaya
çıkışında rol oynamış olması muhtemel etkenleri göz önünde bulundurarak
2. neolitik devrimin daha iyi anlaşılabilmesine katkıda bulunmayı
amaçlamaktayım.
Bleda Düring
Leiden Üniversitesi Arkeoloji Fakültesinde post-doktora
araştırmacısıdır ve uzmanlık alanı Anadolunun tarihöncesi
arkeolojisidir. 2009 yaz sezonunda Kastamonunun Cide ilçesinde
bölgesel yüzey araştırmaları ile başlayacak olan Cide Arkeoloji
Projesinin başkanlığını yürütmektedir. Daha önce Çatalhöyük, Menteşe
ve Barcın Höyük kazılarında çalışmıştır.
Düring Anatolian
Studies ve Archaeological Dialogues gibi uluslararası yayınlara çok
sayıdaki yerleşme ve ev arkeolojisi konulu makalesiyle katkıda
bulunmuştur. Doktora çalışması Constructing Communities. Clustered
