Rolf Strootman (Utrecht University): Empires, Cities, Sanctuaries. Imperial
Patronage of Sanctuaries in Asia Minor and beyond, ca. 550 BCE-950

Rolf
Strootman is Lecturer in Ancient History at Utrecht University. His
research explores the connections between court culture, political
ideology and religion. For his 2005 dissertation he looked at the
Hellenistic states of the Near East, Egypt and Macedonia and Greece. In
his lecture at NIT he will present a new research project which he
leads and which extends the time frame from the 6th century BCE to the
10th century CE, with a special focus on the evidence from Asia Minor
and the Near East.

Strootman Utrecht Üniversitesi Eskiçağ Tarihi Bölümünde öğretim
görevlisidir ve araştırması kapsamında saray kültürü, politik ideoloji
ve din arasındaki bağlantıları incelemektedir. 2005 tarihli tezinde
Yakındoğu, Mısır, Makedonya ve Yunanistanın Helenistik devletleri üzerinde odaklanmıştır. Hollanda
Araştırma Enstitüsünde vereceği konferansta başkanlığını yaptığı ve
özellikle Küçük Asya ve Yakındoğudan gelen kanıtlara yoğunlaşarak MÖ
6. yüzyıldan MS 10. yüzyıla uzanan bir zaman dilimini kapsayan yeni
araştırma projesini sunacaktır. Sizleri de aramızda görmekten mutluluk
duyacağız.
