Guest rooms
NIT has three new and comfortable guest rooms that can be used for a small fee by those who come to Istanbul for research purposes. The air-conditioned single rooms have a private bathroom and refrigerator. Linen is provided. Wireless internet is available throughout the building. Please e-mail for reservations and rates.

Sponsored research stays
NIT encourages advanced students and PhD candidates to spend part of their studies in Istanbul. Several times each year, a stay of up to three months is sponsored by the institute by providing free accommodation. In return, the guest researcher is asked to give a lecture about his or her research and provide some assistance to the institute's staff. To apply, a one-page outline of the proposed research should be submitted, stating also the context within which the research takes place (institution(s), advisor(s), research project), and the relevance of doing this research in Istanbul. Applications can be submitted year-round, but at least two months prior to the desired period of stay. It is advised to contact the director at an early stage.

Dutch language courses
NIT provides facilities and assistance for the organization of Dutch language courses for the general public. More information is provided on the Turkish language [page].

Support for individual researchers and students
Given its aim to foster research on the cultures and societies of Anatolia and the Near East, NIT can provide scholars and students with support, to the extent of its abilities. This can be include consulting on research applications, helping to establish contacts and tapping into academic networks, or by organizing meetings or workshops on particular topics.

To a limited extent, NIT can also assist with finding fieldwork opportunities for students or the organization of study trips. Students looking for possibilities for study or internships in Turkey or the Netherlands are referred to NIHAnkara for information and assistance.

Support for study programmes
NIT is looking to cooperate with university programmes in history, archaeology or art history for short courses that take place in Turkey. In May 2007 a week of seminars is planned at the institute in cooperation with Dr. Joanita Vroom of Sheffield University for MA students in Historical Archaeology and Aegean Prehistory. Suggestions for other cooperative projects are welcome.
