The NIT will co-organize this event, including two public lectures and a closed workshop, in cooperation with the Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies of the University of Amsterdam. On 9 November Iain Chambers of Naples University will talk about ‘Sea and City: the Mediterranean and Other Modernities’. In this lecture, Chambers will critically analyze the discursive predominance of a ‘European’ Mediterranean and provide alternative perspectives on the sea from the African and Asian continents through the visual and auditory arts. On 10 November, Murat Germen, photographer and lecturer at Sabancı University, will talk about The City as a Divider or Unifier?’, in which he will discuss the challenges and strategies of division that ‘new cities’ in contemporary times pose to its residents. Information on reservations for both lectures will follow soon. The closed workshop is invitation only, please direct your enquiries regarding the workshop to nit@nit-istanbul.org.
